Jamie - this is for you! :):)
People ask me all the time what the story behind my parents being called
"Mica and Poppy" is, well here goes....
It was the year 2001, and I was about 5 months pregnant with Kassidy. She was going to be the first grandchild on my side. At the time, every year Dad and Mom treated all of us to a fun "Family Vacation" during the summer. This particular summer we were staying in a cabin in the mountains and Mom, Erin ( my wonderful sister-in -law), Elisha, and I, were discussing the new baby and what she would eventually call Mom and Dad. Grandma and Grandpa just didn't seem to fit them. We wanted something different - something that sounded like them. So, we pulled out the lap top (yes, we had internet access in the mountains) and we began to do a search on the word Grandmother. "Mica" is Serbian for "grandmother" and, well, we just thought it sounded like her. She is a Mica! Then we thought "Poppy" fit Dad so well that we all agreed they would be Mica and Poppy.
It is funny because I remember how excited I was to be able to give them this gift of becoming grandparents. I knew they would be great at it. Boy was I right! They are so much fun. What they give, they give in abundance! They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, laughter, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies!! They have such a great relationship with the kids. It is amazing. I can not wait to watch their relationships grow and develope over the years.
We love you guys so much! Thanks for being, well, Mica and Poppy!!
